The Triptych
A work in progress, in three parts. De Bruid (The Bride) was the first. Over the coming year I am making the other two: De Bruidegom (The Groom) and De Prediker (The Preacher). Together they are about marriage, and about the gap between marriage as a tradition, fixed and symbolic, and love as a feeling, which never holds still. Between those two stands whoever blesses the union.
Each sculpture has to stand on its own. Together they should say something none of them says alone, which means the distance between them, where they look and how they stand in relation to each other matter as much as the figures themselves.

De Bruid (The Bride), from skeleton to sculpture
Every sculpture starts as a digital figure. The pose is built on a skeleton in Unreal Engine, with a MetaHuman as the base, reshaped almost entirely; the head is sometimes posed live through a webcam rig. In ZBrush the figure, the dress and the hair are worked out, with the fabric first draped by simulation and then sculpted by hand. Only then is it cut into parts and printed.
